H.Pomatia – Pt 8 (Heard Back)

So I received an email back from the Shell Club and attached was an article I already had and then the document below. This document in itself is interesting but because of this document, I was able to find something else. The next post will be password protected so that only those approved can see it.  The other document I found goes into much greater detail with names, the location and is really a piece of history.I had already found a different document with the location but nothing like this. It has the name of the person who found the population and if anyone is wondering yes I will be reaching out to see if I can find them and hopefully talk to them.

Below is the document I was sent.

Location -pt7

Please start at pt1 and then return here if you have not been following to catch up.

The weather is still a bit cold so, I have to continue to wait patiently to see the H.Pomatia’s. In the time being, I have done a lot of thinking about the release of the location data. I had originally provided the location. Then I removed it to accommodate a request. I will however no longer be catering to anyone’s requests in this matter. It has been nothing but negative and honestly an annoyance to something intended to be positive and fun. The location of these snails can be found online, I found it. Anyone can find it. I did digging and found it.

It would have been nice if someone had shared it with me instead of having to spend hours trying to find it but that wasn’t the case. So with that said I will be providing the information on a person to person basis, it will not be to everyone. If you are interested you can contact me via my contact page (fastest way).

There is a community of people who collect snails as a hobby and it is a community of generally good, nice people. I believe strongly that community is important and sharing information with each other is important. It is a risk to provide location data but I weighed this with the ability to find it anyways and decided that I’m not going to be selfish with this information. I hope to build friendships with other snail hobbyists/lovers/collector and together share information and grow as a community. With all of that said.  If you are interested in this WI H.Pomatia location information you can contact me via my contact page (fastest way). The information I share with you I would hope that you share with caution also. Providing this information to someone looking to use these snails for food could end up with them disappearing from this location completely.

Time for Snails

Life is fast. Life ist stressful. Life is chaos. It’s time to slow down. It’s time to relax. It’s time for snails! I watched some videos at YouTube about Helix pomatia, the Burgundy Snail / Roman Snail. It’s the biggest snail we have here in Germany. I watched a video which shows a snail having dinner, a video which shows […]

kletAlright so after much browsing of the internet I have come to a fairly firm belief as to the location of the H.Pomatia. Well, one location 🙂 I had posted a link originally to the document that brought me to a pretty good conclusion but I removed it out of being asked to do so. I know that is probably disappointing to some as it leaves this story quite open but I did it for Boggart. Boggart made some good points about disclosing the location to everyone. To sum it up the information in the wrong hands could destroy the population. The document I found however stated that there was in fact, a population there.

So that this isn’t all for nothing I will be updating soon with the information on how these snails ended up where they are. I have reached out to the source am fairly sure they will have the real history of this.

As for those of you who want the location I guess it will be on a person to person basis. I will only be disclosing the information to those who are true hobbyists.

Mapping -pt5

So I have reduced my search down to three places that I feel may be possible.

Havenwoods State Forest – This is the only forest near Milwaukee.

Servite Park Preserve – This is the only Preserve I have located near North Milwaukee.
My last place is Park – This location is on the Milwaukee river Boggart mentioned the river and 2 entrances I believe. In addition, it was said that the snail farm was on an island which if you look on a full map mine is a bit too small you can see few islands. Now I don’t know if any of them are even large enough but it’s an idea. I am leaning toward this location. After watching Boggart’s video the tree/foliage and trails look very similar.
